Congratulations, you have reached the next level! College is a big step and it takes planning. Okay, it takes a lot of planning. So where do we start? First, how are you going to pay for college? Of course, there is Federal financial aid such as Pell Grants and Direct Student Loans but they only cover a percentage of the costs to attend a four-year institution. Additionally, there is no guarantee that students will receive both federal grants and student loans. Do not lose hope! There are numerous outlets that can help you pay for college, and we are going to discuss a very popular one, scholarships!
What are scholarships?
A scholarship is a grant or payment made toward a student’s education. Anyone can apply for a scholarship. There are many types of scholarships that awards merit, athletics, talents or any requirement.
When should I start my scholarship search?
You can begin searching for scholarships at anytime. It’s best to start as early as your sophomore or junior year. While you can’t apply until your senior year, you can organize and prepare application materials ahead of time.
How do I start my scholarship search?
Here is a helpful plan to help you start your scholarship search.
- Buy a journal or notebook.
- Ask yourself the difficult questions.
- What is your career path?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
- Name a special attribute or recognition about yourself
- Who is your biggest influence and why?
- How has your background influence your thinking?
- Write the answers truthfully.
- Always check your answers and update them if needed.
Once you are ready to apply, thanks to this plan, you already have the answers. Good Luck in your search! You can do it!
